Race Report #1: Minooka Mania

Image

The word is spreading...Shorewood MTB's third season kicked off this summer with twice the number of athletes as our previous year. The growth of our sport and team is incredibly exciting and the support from our parents, volunteers and community has expanded as well. The Hounds presence was definitely felt as we launched into another race season at our 'home course' of Minooka Park in Waukesha. The Wisconsin League continues to see vibrant growth in the number of athletes and teams, even including a few schools from beyond Wisconsin's border. Over 320 student-athletes representing over 30 teams converged on these beautiful, flowing singletrack and ski trails for a demanding but fun kickoff to the race season.

The team has been working hard all summer (and off-season) to prepare for this moment and it paid off in some very impressive results across the board. The Hounds even managed to get 3 different riders onto the podium of their respective races! The Team and Individual competitions were very tightly-contested so it's going to be exciting to watch these new rivalries develop as the season moves on. Across the whole team, every athlete that took the start line finished their race and met the challenges that this tough course presented!

A special shout-out to Finn, Janneke, Gretchen, Maya, Audrey, Sam, David L., Isak, Evan, Mark, Stone, Devin, Adena, Stella, Nick, Luke, Ian, Jacob, Stanley, Pieter and Elias (wow...that's a lot of first-time racers!) for competing and ALL finishing in their very first NICA mountain bike race! See below for the detailed race results and photos from the event...

A quick word about our photos. As the team has grown, so has our collection of amazing race photography. In previous years, we were able to collect a nice, compact photo gallery that told the story in 20-30 images. That is no longer the case... We had over 400 images submitted by the Shorewood MTB Photo Corps, so we're instead going to edit that down to a bit more manageable hundred or so images. To handle this volume, we've also moved our gallery over to a standalone Google Photos album that you can view by following the link below. Thanks again for everyone out there capturing the excitement of our race weekend!

The Shorewood MTB Race Support Machine has responded remarkably to our growing team and is off and running... Thanks again to all of of our parents, volunteers, sponsors and supporters for making the races run so smoothly. Onward to Iola...
